There’s nothing quite like a visit to The Big Smoke; in London you’re never short of things to do. The parks, monuments, museums and residences are awe inspiring no matter how many times you see them, but London is also full of hidden gems that the average tourist overlooks. If you want to beat the queues and see something different on your next visit to London, check out these three first class destinations.

1. The Camden Catacombs

The catacombs offer you a unique glimpse into the past. The Camden catacombs are an abandoned network of tunnels and vaults from the 19th Century that lie 21 feet underneath the bustling Camden borough market; they were built as stables for pit ponies and horses and stretch all the way to Primrose hill, giving visitors a truly authentic view of London’s industrial Victorian past.

2. The House They Left Behind

The Blitz was the most notorious event ever to befall London. The House They Left Behind is exactly what it sounds like; during the Blitz every house on Narrow Street, Limehouse was demolished, the entire terrace, except for one building. The old surviving public house was built in 1857 and today is a restaurant known as The House, inside you can see original Victorian artwork while enjoying a tasty meal and a drink.

3. The Medicine Man

At the wellcome collection if you want to avoid the crowds at the Tate Modern and the Natural History Museum then the Medicine Man exhibition is a must see. The exhibition is dedicated to Henry Wellcome: a pharmaceutical entrepreneur and philanthropist whose vast collection of items, artefacts and artwork forms the base of this unmissable free museum. The Medicine Man exhibit contains an expansive range of extraordinary objects, so you can see everything from diagnostic dolls to Napoleon’s toothbrush, all on Euston Road.
